BlueStone Properties Inc. is an award-winning, family-owned and run property management and development company. For three generations, BlueStone has built and maintained quality residential and commercial properties in London, Ontario.Â
The Dufferin Corporate Centre, owned and managed by BlueStone Properties, was built in 1992 and is a large, modern office complex in the heart of London, Ontario. With 200 heat pumps operating at any given time, maintaining them is a significant job. Since the lifespan of a heat pump ranges from 15 to 25 years, regular replacements are expected and planned for.
At the same time, heat pump technology does not stay still, so part of that routine of maintenance and replacement is upgrading failing heat pumps to newer models that offer greater energy efficiency and use more environmentally-friendly refrigerant. The Climate Action Microgrant worked with Bluestone to install a new model of heat pump on the fifth floor.Â
Heat pumps are a popular and reliable technology, so the crew was familiar with the system. The installation was not complicated and was integrated with regular maintenance.
The new heat pump is designed to achieve approximately 25% less electricity consumption than the old model. Beyond the cost savings, this new generation of more efficient heat pumps create a more comfortable workspace for tenants.
In projects such as this one, the Climate Action Microgrant and similar incentives help businesses defray the initial costs of high-quality, sustainable replacements for existing equipment.
