La Fromagerie coopérative St-Albert et St-Albert Cheese Co-op Inc. has been producing fine cheese since 1894. As well as manufacturing cheese, St-Albert has evolved into a destination tourism site, with an on-site restaurant featuring their quality products and a store where visitors can make their purchases and view the production floor.
After a devastating fire in 2013, the mandate from the member-owners was to rebuild the factory to be modern, efficient and sustainable. With a renewed focus on sustainability and efficiency, the move to replace the fluorescent factory floor lighting with LEDs felt like a natural step.
Once all the phases of this lighting overhaul are complete, the business expects to reduce its energy use by 471.24 KW/hr per day – enough energy to power almost 19 homes!* The longer lifespan of the LED lights also means La Fromagerie will need to change fewer light bulbs.
Beyond improved efficiency, the business looks forward to brighter lighting that will improve workplace conditions for staff and help present the manufacturing process in the best possible light for visitors.
*The Ontario Energy Board defines a typical residential customer as using 750 kw/h per month, or about 25 kw/h per day.
